Time and Place

For simplicity campaign uses modern calendar Jan 1st, Dec 28th, etc. no leap years.

For a group of characters to adventure together they must:

  1. start in the same area (which should normally be Fort Brinks)
  2. have matching personal date

This will be a non-issue most of the time. Just wanted to outline the rules so they are clear to everyone.

Personal Location

First the general plan for each game session should be:

"Go out do something then return to the Goat & Wizard, have a few pints, update the table map, and regale the locals with tales of your exploits."

That way all characters are in one spot ready for next game session when they'll want to join a new group heading out in search of adventure.

Of course it's possible to get stuck in a trap or dungeon somewhere and not make it out before game session has to end. But, that should be the exception. If it happens the group will need to schedule another game session together so they can escape. Or perhaps other players will mount a rescue mission! Offering rewards for your rescue on the mailing list is acceptable.

Personal Date

At the end of a game session every player should record their character's personal date (which will be provided by the GM).

If a character is in Fort Brinks they can advance their personal date to match that of a group they wish to adventure with. Conversely a group could all advance their personal dates to match that of a character who is "in the future".

This is also an easy way for characters to spend time healing, doing arcane research, crafting, etc.

Example time:

Rogar & Buffy play every tues. Strongbad joins them whenever he can.

Game 1: Rogar, Buffy, Strongbad return heavy with loot from Pit of Unspeakable Horrors. They each record personal date of 10/2/670.

Game 2: Rogar and Buffy decide to brave the pit without Strongbad, hey 1/2 loot's better than 1/3. But they get spanked by sneaky kobolds and end up spending an extra week healing. Only Rogar and Buffy record personal date of 10/11/670 as they were the only characters present.

Game 3: Strongbad comes back and laughs at Rogar and Buffy. If they don't want another beating they need him to join them exploring the Wood of Nearly Constant Woe. But they're 9 days in the future, remember Strongbad hasn't "played" since 10/2/670. No problem, Strongbad just declares he spends the time training his pet hamster and bam! The three can head off together.
